Fausti Acquarium/Lord/Commando/Savannah

Notes: Fausti, Stefano, and Figlie is an arms company established soon after World War 2 to produce hunting and sporting shotguns. These shotguns are entry level weapons which are based on the Elegant (below); the Acquarium has a synthetic stock and fore-end finished in fresh green camouflage; the Lord has a walnut root stock with a grain finish; the Commando has a synthetic stock with a brown and yellow camouflage finish; and the Savannah has a green camouflage finish on a synthetic stock that is not as garish as the Acquarium. These over-and-under guns are produced in Standard and Trap models. The Standard versions are built for a plethora of gauges with chambers that can accept 2.75-inch or 3-inch shells (except for the 28 gauge model), and a choice of three barrel lengths. They may have fixed chokes to order or interchangeable chokes. They have automatic ejectors for spent shells, and these guns have a single non-selective trigger; the bottom barrel fires first, followed by the top barrel upon the second pull of the trigger. The Trap model is built only for 12 and 20 gauge, with 2.75-inch chambers; the choices of barrel lengths is different, and above the barrel is a ventilated sighting rib, but the Trap version is otherwise similar to the Standard model.

Fausti Classic

Notes: The Classic is not a gun for beginners – considering the real-world price, beginners probably could not afford it. It is a side-by-side double-barreled shotgun with Holland & Holland side-lock plates and external hammers. The barrels are fastened to a barrel block which is then joined together, forming a single strong unit. Locking is done with a large double barrel lug with Greener-Webley locking, which consists of an extension to the barrel rib locked by a transverse bar that passes through a central aperture, engaging a matching recess in the head of the breech. The Classic is made for the usual Fausti plethora of gauges and with chambers which will accept both 2.75-inch and 3-inch shells (except, of course, the 28 gauge version). The barrels are 26 or 28 inches, with a choice of fixed IC/M or M/F chokes. The gun ahs twin triggers and shell extractors which remove the spent shells just enough to make grasping them easy. The stock is pistol grip wrist style and made from select walnut root. The side plates are intricately engraved. There is also a less fancy version; this has less engraving and a pistol grip wrist stock. Another version is Classic EL Gold; it is superbly engraved, has chromed side plates, and an English-style straight stock. The breech and side plates may be chromed or blued at the buyer’s request. These other versions are identical to the standard Classic for game purposes.

Fausti Dallas

Notes: This is a heavy-gauge over-and under shotgun firing the powerful 10-gauge 3.5" shell. It is a simple weapon based on Fausti’s other designs, but with more different choices. The barrels are either 26 or 32 inches, with fixed Full chokes or a set of interchangeable chokes. The locking is of the barrel block type, with extractors for the shells which push the shells out of the breech enough for the shooter to easily grasp them when the weapon is broken open. The Dallas may have a single non-selective trigger, a single selective trigger, or double triggers. The top of the barrels has a sighting rib. Most sales of this gun are made in North America, since most European countries’ laws do not permit the use of such a heavy-gauge shotgun in hunting.

Fausti Elegant

Notes: One of Fausti’s basic models, this over-and-under shotgun is a simple weapon with virtually no adornment in its base form, basic blueing or bare metal for the breech block, side plates, and barrel, and a walnut stock of the pistol grip wrist-type and fore-end of average quality. The Elegant has double Purdey locking with locking lugs on both sides of the barrels with a heavy transverse bolt. The base model of the Elegant comes in the usual Fausti cluster of gauges, chambers which will accept 2.75-inch or 3-inch shells, and barrels of 26, 28, or 30 inches. The Elegant may have a single nonselective trigger, a single trigger with a barrel selector (at the base of the trigger), or a double trigger. The Elegant may be equipped with fixed IC/M, M/F, or IM/F chokes, or interchangeable chokes, at the buyer’s option. The Elegant is equipped with automatic shell extractors.

There are several variant and deluxe versions of the Elegant. The Elegant EL used finer walnut, but is otherwise identical to the base Elegant for game purposes. The Elegant Slug model has short 23-inch barrels, one of which is smoothbore, and one of which is rifled. The Elegant EL Gold has a box lock and a blued breech which has an engraved woodcock in flight, inlaid with gold. The Elegant C EL Gold is the most deluxe version, with side plates that have an intricately-engraved hunting scene inlaid with gold. It too is identical to the standard Elegant for game purposes.
