Astra 650/750

Notes: While Astra pistols and revolvers are quite popular throughout the world, Astra shotguns are virtually unknown outside of Spain and Portugal. The 650 and 750 models were meant to rectify this situation, being the first of their shotguns to achieve any level of export popularity. The 650 and 750 are basic over-and-under shotguns, using good materials and built to close tolerances, but otherwise standard weapons. They are primarily meant for fowl hunting, and have long barrels. The 750 uses a single trigger that fires both barrels, while the 650 is equipped with two triggers. Astra shotguns are known for their durability and reliability.

AYA Model 1

Notes: This is the top of the line for the AYA range. It is an English-style shotgun, with side-by-side barrels. The stocks are hand-finished from specially-selected walnut roots. The barrels and barrel blocks are made from the same piece of high-grade steel. There is much engraving and decoration on the gun, usually to order. Choke is done to customer preference. The barrels are chromed nickel steel and have automatic ejectors for the spent shells. The locking mechanism is very firm and once closed, will not accidentally open. The Model 1 is available in 5 gauges and virtually any barrel length from 25 to 30 inches according to customer preference; some sample barrel lengths are shown below. Shell type is also variable, though the standard gun uses a 2.75" shell, and this is shown below.

AYA Model 2

Notes: Introduced in 1984, this is an English-style side-by-side double-barreled shotgun, not quite as fancy as a Model 1, but still a beautiful weapon. It is very similar to the Model 1, but not available in as many variations as that shotgun, having barrels ranging from 26 to 28 inches. The breech is very easy to open, as it is spring-loaded; this type of opening is sometimes referred to as "self-opening," but the Model 2’s safety mechanisms ensure that it will not open by accident. The gun has automatic ejectors and an automatic safety system; the trigger cannot be pulled while the gun is broken open. In addition, the Model 2 has a manual safety.

AYA Model 25

Notes: This weapon is based on the British Churchill Model XXV of the 1940s, if not a direct copy of the Churchill weapon. As such, it is a basic double-barreled shotgun of simple construction. There are long holes drilled in the stock and then plugged to reduce weight, and the barrels are shorter than is normal for such a gun (both to further lighten the weapon in general and to produce the desired center of balance near the center of the weapon). It has a double trigger, but the triggers are close together and have a light pull so they can be easily pulled at the same time.

Notes: Though this shotgun is made in Spain, it is distributed by Leland Firearms of West Orange, New Jersey; it is sometimes known as the Leland even in Europe (but normally, the Union Armera 210). It is a basic shotgun made along the lines of the "English Game Gun," with long, side-by side barrels and a simple stock and mechanism. The finish is quite good and the quality of materials likewise good. It uses a Purdey triple lock and automatic shell ejectors. It is meant to be a mid-priced shotgun. The normal chambering is for 2 3/4" shells, but 3" chambers can also be had in most gauges.
