FSR Tarpan Honker
Notes: This is a
jeep-like vehicle used in place of the UAZ-469 by Poland.
The layout is conventional, and the vehicle looks similar to a Land
Rover. The Honker comes in two
sizes, a short wheelbase version (the 4012) and a long wheelbase version (the
4022). Hardtop and soft-top
versions are available. There is a
weapon mount either on the roof of the hardtop version or on a post behind the
front seats in the soft-top version.
The design of
the Honker has had an interesting chain of custody.
From 1984 to 1996, the Honker was built by FSR.
In 1996, the design was acquired by Daewoo Motor Polska. After Daewoo
went bankrupt, the license was bought by Andoria-Mot which built the Honker in
two modernized versions from 2002-2003. Intrall Polska built the Honker from
2004 to 2007, and produced versions including the Honker M-AX and the armored
Honker Skorpion 3 for Polish troops in Iraq. Finally, DZT Tymincy built the
Honker from 2007 to 2016; they eventually went bankrupt, and production of the
Honker ended with that bankruptcy.
The Honker 2000 is an
improved Honker built under the Daewoo stewardship; it has a 115-horsepower
diesel engine. The Honker M-AX is a fully realized off-road variant of the
Honker, with a suspension and drivetrain taken from the Iveco Daily.
The Skorpion 3 has a heavy armored body and a weapon mount on the roof
which can take just about any sort of weapon, but the Skorpion 3 was designed
for patrol and will generally have weapons that will allow it to break contact
quickly. The Skorpion 3 uses the 170-horsepower engine of the Honker M-AX. The
troops seats in the rear cargo area of the Skorpion 3 are back-to-back. The roof
gunner has an AV2 gun shield in front of him.
Other variants
include the Baryton, with large crowd sound disruptors on the roof; the ZWD-3
command vehicle; a fire engine; and several civilian models.
