HICOM Handalan

Notes: This medium truck was developed by Malaysia with the help of Isuzu of Japan; it is based on the Isuzu FSS 32G.  It is a standard cabover truck of unremarkable design (except for the unusual nearly 7-meter length), but has the advantage of being domestically produced, and it is anticipated that it will be produced in large numbers for the Malaysian military.  Bangladesh, Brunei, and Pakistan were also interested in the Handalan; only Brunei, in addition to the Australian RAAF, actually bought any. The Handalan I is the basic model, powered by an Isuzu 6HE1 diesel engine with 180 horsepower, coupled with a manual transmission with five forward and one reverse gear.  The Handalan II uses a domestically produced 195-horsepower diesel, coupled with an automatic transmission. It can haul 4.8 tons on the road, and features software allowing the crew to monitor the state of their vehicle in real time.  The Handalan II has a winch in front with a capacity of 5.4 tons and 60 meters of cable. The Handalan III was recently introduced; chief among its improvements is the installation of a Tata diesel engine developing 230 horsepower.
