Bumar Labedy 668

Notes: This is a general-purpose cargo carrier built by Poland.  It is known for its high speed (for a vehicle of its type and time period).  It is normally used to tow field guns and howitzers, and can tow 14 tons or carry 3 tons.  Seats may be added in the rear for 12 passengers.  This vehicle is a close relative of the Russian ATS-59G (q.v.).  The vehicle is of cabover design, with the crew compartment over the engine and transmission.  The rear cargo area has drop steel sides and tailgate, and is covered with a canvas top.  The cab has a hatch on the roof with a weapon mount, and has radiation shielding and an NBC overpressure system.  There is a front-mounted winch with a capacity of 14.7 tons, and some versions (the 668 S) have a front-mounted lattice crane with a capacity of 7.5 tons and a reach of 2.5 meters.  Optionally, an additional 240-liter fuel tank may be installed at the expense of cargo. The 668 is powered by a modified tank engine – an A-650-G diesel developing 295 horsepower.

Notes: This is an elderly Polish truck that can still be found in some places in Eastern Europe.  It was mostly replaced by the heavier Star 28, but can still be found in some reserve formations and among civilians.  As these trucks began production in the late 1940s, and the last one was built in 1968, none can be found with a wear value of better than 5.  The Star 28 is known for its excellent soundproofing and thermal insulation for the cab, as well as efficient heating and good visibility from the forward control cab. The Star 25 is powered by an S472 gasoline engine developing 95 horsepower, coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. Other engines used during the Star 25’s production include the S473 87.5-horsepower gasoline engine and the S474 105-horsepower gasoline engine; the 87.5-horsepower engine was used in the tropicalized Star 25 Tropic and the 105-horsepower engine in the Star 25M1. The Star 25 was produced in a number of van bodies and a variety of civilian versions ranging from wreckers to garbage trucks.

Notes: This medium truck is a former standard medium truck used by Poland.  It was also used by the Czechs, and is still used by the Vietnamese.  The design has a semi-cabover configuration, with engine and transmission access panels on the front and in the cab. Both the cab and rear cargo area are canvas covered. A limited number of prototypes were built; these had an S46 102.5-horsepower gasoline-burning engine.  Production versions are powered by an S47 gasoline engine developing 105 horsepower. Both are coupled with 5-speed manual transmission. The Star 66 was improved in the 1970s to produce the Star 660M1, and then the further improved Star 660M2 (all of which are essentially the same in game terms).  Another version, which didn’t get much production, was the Star 660D, with a diesel S530A1 100-horsepower engine.

FSC Star 266

Notes: The Star 266 is a medium 6x6 truck used by Poland.  The vehicle is of cabover construction, and the cab is all steel.  The rear cargo area has a removable canvas cover and a drop tailgate; the floor of the cargo box is wooden. The brakes of the Star 266 are power assisted; on the 266M, the steering is also power assisted.  The front bumper has a 6000-kilogram capacity winch with 50 meters of cable. The Star 266 uses an S359 diesel developing 148 horsepower; the 266M is powered by a MAN D0824LFL09 diesel with 153 horsepower and which meets Euro2 specifications. The 266M also has other improvements, like the spare tire moved under the frame behind the cab, better cab soundproofing and thermal insulation, better ventilation, as well as a more ergonomic instrument and control layout for the driver.  The driver’s seat is also fully adjustable, and all cab seats are hydraulically suspended. On the 266M, there is also a space behind the cab seating to form a sleeper cab or store extra gear.

Variants include a cargo/troop carrier and a hard-bodied workshop. The Star 266 has also seen much service among civilians and international organizations, with variants limited only by the imagination. Some 17 armies use or used the Star 266.

Twilight 2000 Notes: The Star 266M does not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline.
