Kia KM1002
Notes: This is
South Korea’s prime mover for tank transporters and other semi-trailers of a
military nature. It has an 8x8
suspension with good off-road capabilities.
It is based on the KM100 heavy truck. The cab is a forward control tipper
type, with seating for the driver and 5 passengers in two rows of seats, with a
space behind the rear seat for crew equipment.
There are twin recovery winches behind the cab, along with a spare tire;
these winches have a capacity of 25 tons each.
The KM1002 is designed to operate in a wide variety of climatic
conditions, from deep winter to a hot summer.
It is a fairly quiet truck as well, giving off noise of less than 85
decibels at full power. The engine of the KM1002 is a Hyundai D6CA diesel
developing 450 horsepower, coupled with an unspecified automatic transmission.
The automatic transmission, along with power brakes, power steering, and the
relatively narrow width (for a tractor truck) allows the driver better control
of the truck in the narrow streets often encountered in South Korea’s cities and
towns.
A variant, the
KM1001, has a towing capacity half that of the KM1002 and is somewhat smaller,
but is otherwise virtually identical to the KM1002.

Notes: These semi-tractors do not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline.
