Notes: This rifle was originally designed as a military training rifle, to teach basic marksmanship. It had a long production run, from 1908-1939, during which many thousands were built. Several versions were built, mostly with a fixed stock, but some were built with a folding stock. They typically had the rising-blade-type rear sight that was found on most air rifles of the day, the No. 1A (later known as the No. 2) had a micrometer-adjustable rear sight, and a plate that could take the a folding aperture sight.

Notes: This side-by-side double-barreled rifle fires the powerful .416 Rigby round. The Rigby Double .416 locks with double barrel lugs which have doll’s head locking. The barrel rib extends into the breech block for added strength, with a tapered bevel that drops into a matching recess in the breech block – very strong, but also very labor-intensive to build. The side locks are Southgate-type, with a large V-shaped spring at the back of the lock plate. The mechanism is very reliable ahs accidental discharges or discharges of both barrels at once are virtually impossible. The Rigby Double .416 has a double trigger, which can be made to fire at a pressure specified by the customer. The stock and fore-end are of select walnut root, handmade and polished. The pistol grip wrist, fore-end, and neck have fish-skin-type checkering. The side plates are works of art, with elaborate engraving (often gold-inlaid), and signed with the name of the company.

Notes: This side-by-side double-barreled rifle is designed for elephant hunting, and uses a powerful round. This rifle’s locking is by double lugs under the barrel block with a Purdey bolt. The Purdey bolt has a short lug which drops into a recess between the two barrels and into the buffer plate of the breech. The locking lug also drops into an aperture, further strengthening the mechanism. Though this rifle is normally made to customer order, the standard gun uses 24-inch barrels; the side plates are always a work of art, and the stock and fore-end are of select walnut. The trigger is a double trigger.
