Khalid MBT
Notes: This is a modified Chieftain built for Jordan and Iran. The Khalid can be distinguished by the raised rear deck, which houses a power pack that is almost identical to that of the Challenger’s. The main gun is fully stabilized. The Khalid also has an improved fire suppression system. The transmission is fully automatic. The engine cooling system is optimized for desert operations. A 5 KW APU was added for use by the vehicle’s systems when the engine is not running. The Khalid has a laser rangefinder/ballistic computer combination. The Khalid is fitted with a fire suppression system.
After Khomeini took over Iran, the order to Iran was cancelled, and the remaining Khalids sold to Jordan, who bought 274.
