TM-800
Notes: It is possible that this Romanian tank is a development of the T-55. It is heavier, and the increased weight is primarily composed of extra, advanced armor protection. The armament has not been changed, but a laser rangefinder has been added, as well as a ballistic computer. Improved night vision gear has been fitted, and a better fire suppression system is installed. The engine is also upgraded. The suspension is different, as it has 6 smaller roadwheels instead of 5 larger ones. The exhaust is also in a different place. The TM-800 has lugs for reactive armor (HF, HS, TF, TS).

TR-85
Notes: This is another Romanian upgrade of the T-55, and is an intermediate step in development to the TM-800. The engine, though not as powerful as the TM-800, is more powerful than that of the T-55, and the armor, though not heavy or advanced as the TM-800, is an improvement over the T-55. The TR-85 has lugs for reactive armor (TF, HF, HS).

TR-580
Notes: This was the Romanian's first attempt to upgrade their T-55 fleet. Since its introduction, the TR-580 has been progressively modernized to TR-85 or TM-800 specifications, and by 1997, only 90 of the TR-580 tanks remained in service. They are basically T-55s with heavier armor and upgraded fire control. The way to tell a TR-580 from a TR-85 is that the TR-580 lacks the stowage box on the left side of the turret, and the TR-85 is about a half a meter longer than the TR-580.
