Schultz & Larson m/42

Notes: Also known as the Rigspolitikarabin m/42, this rifle was primarily designed as a sporting weapon, but also has limited issue to the Danish National Police after World War 2. As such, it is sort of a mix of civilian and military features: the bolt mechanism is basically that of a civilian weapon (specifically, it is based on the earlier m/38), but it has a turned-down bolt handle to allow for high-power optics. The stock is of the full-length Mannlicher type, with a rudimentary pistol grip wrist (primarily for ease and inexpensiveness of manufacture), and made of unexceptional hardwood. The bolt can be opened even when the safety is applied, allowing the shooter to ensure his chamber is clear when necessary. The magazine is small, but field-stripping is quite simple, and the entire weapon is essentially "soldier" (or police)-proof. The m/42 has sling swivels, and the iron sights are quite simple, consisting of a plain front blade and a simple U-shaped notch-type sights. Both are adjustable for windage, but not elevation.

Unfortunately, by 1943 (a year after its introduction), Danish arms factories were being sabotaged on almost a daily basis, both by the Nazis and by Danish resistance fighters. Consequently, the m/42 is one of the rarest Danish rifles to be found, with perhaps 600 having been produced before production finally stopped. The Nazis may have used some of them, as did Danish resistance fighters; more may have actually been produced, but if there were more produced, they were lost during World War 2. The m/42 is thus a hot item amongst arms collectors.

Though a very few were converted to fire .30-06 Springfield ammunition after World War 2 (and some collectors have also converted them for other calibers), the m/42 is primarily found in its original chambering: 8mm Danish Krag.
